Can I park here right now?

BayFinder reads the bay's rules for the minute you arrive and tells you what applies, until when, and where that came from. Rules come from council open data and from drivers who stood in front of the sign.

Built on published rules

Not a pin on a map. A reading of the plate.

Most parking maps tell you where a car park is. BayFinder works out what the sign means for you at the time you'll be there, and shows its working.

A colour for every minute

Each bay is coloured for the time you're looking at, not a fixed "free" or "paid" label. Evening, Sunday and bank holiday rules change the colour with them.

Every rule shows its receipt

Where it came from, who checked it and when. A place nobody has stood in front of yet is drawn dashed, so you know how much to trust it.

A nudge before time runs out

Park, tap once, and get a reminder before your stay ends. If your phone delays notifications, the app tells you so you can plan around it.

Reading the rules should never sit behind a paywall.

Some parking apps lock the map after a trial unless you keep posting reports. BayFinder doesn't. Contributing is welcome, and never the price of seeing the rules.

  • Every rule, price and last-checked dateFor every bay and car park on the map.
  • A reminder before your stay endsOne active parking session, with a reminder time you choose.
  • Where you parkedThe pin, the street and the time you arrived.
  • "I'm leaving" signalLet the next driver know a space is about to come up. Information only; nobody holds a space.
  • Works offlineRules are worked out on your phone, so a basement car park with no signal still gets an answer.
The signs decide

We read the sign with you. We never overrule it.

Rules change, temporary orders appear, data goes out of date. BayFinder tells you what's recorded and how fresh it is. The plate and the road markings where you park always have the final word, and so does your own judgement.

Questions

Before you join.

When does BayFinder launch?

Android comes first, starting in Glastonbury, Somerset, with council data for every city listed on this site already loaded. Join the waitlist and we will email you once on launch day.

Is there an iPhone version?

Not at launch. Pick iPhone on the form and we will count you. Demand decides when it comes.

Where does the data come from?

Councils that publish parking data under the Open Government Licence, the Department for Transport's D-TRO register of traffic orders, and drivers who confirm what the sign says. Every rule in the app shows which one it came from.

Is it really free?

Yes. Reading every rule, price and freshness date is free for good. Paid extras may come later, such as several cars or a chain of reminders, and nothing that is free now will move behind them.

Does it book or pay for parking?

No. BayFinder helps you decide where to park. You still pay at the meter or in the council's payment app, and public spaces cannot be reserved.

What happens to my email?

We use it to tell you when the app is out, and for nothing else. Write to support@bayfinder.co.uk to have it removed at any time.

Know the rule before you reach the bay.
